Mavericks In Third After Day One

MARSHALL, Minn. - Junior Erin Ommen and sophomore Dani Suponchick each fired rounds of five-over par 77 Saturday afternoon to lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha women's golf team into third place after the first round of the 36-hole Southwestern Minnesota State Mustang Invite.
The Mavs posted their second lowest team total of the season with a 29-over par 317, but trail leader Upper Iowa by 14 heading into Sunday's final round. Concordia-St. Paul is alone in second place, 10 shots off the pace at 313.
Ommen and Suponchick are in a six-way tie for fifth place, three shots behind first round co-leaders Rachel Schmidt of Upper Iowa and Kaytie Spangler of Concordia-St. Paul. UNO Freshman Rebecca Pollack is among the top twenty individuals after Saturday's round, finding herself in a tie for nineteenth at nine-over after a opening round 81. Junior Abbey Weddle fired an 82, while sophomore Amy Powell carded an 86 for the Mavs.
The final round of the Mustang Invite is scheduled to get underway Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun.
