UNO Finishes Sixth at MIAA Championship

EMPORIA, KAN.- Freshman #Megan Oddo# ran to a 19th place finish, earning All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors, as the UNO cross country team finished sixth at the MIAA Cross Country Championships at Jones Park in Emporia, Kansas on Saturday morning. With a time of 23:11, Oddo helped the Mavs improve from a ninth place finish in 2008 to sixth with a team total of 172 points.
Missouri Southern won the championship with a MIAA record-low team score of 18 points. MSSU's Kimi Shank ran to a first place finish for the second year straight and set a course record with a time of 21:01.
Freshman #Brittany Phillips# finished in 32nd place for the Mavs with a time of 23:49.
The surprise of the day for the Mavericks was sophomore #Kelly Esch#. Esch joined the team in mid-season and in spite of the shortened training time with the team, finished third for UNO and 37th overall with a time of 23:58. She was followed closely by #Dina Luka# who ran a time of 24:00 for 38th place. #Nicole Behm# was the fifth finisher for UNO with a time of 24:20, good for 48th place.
Next up for UNO is the NCAA South Central Regional in Abilene, Texas on November 7.
