VALLEY, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha golf team fired a final round team score of 315 and held on to its 10-shot lead over Upper Iowa University to win the UNO Fall Classic at the Pines Golf Club Monday afternoon.
The Peacocks kept pace with the Mavericks in the final round, but could not overcome the 10-stroke lead UNO built in Sunday's first-round action. The two teams shot final-round scores of 315. The Mavs finished the tournament with a 619 (304-315), while UIU turned in a two-day total of 629 (314-315). Truman finished third with a 647 (312-335).
#Erin Ommen# was UNO's top finisher with a two-round total of 151 (73-78) which earned her a second-place finish.
UIU's Laura Taylor collected medalist honors with a 145 (73-72). Taylor's final-round 72 was tops on the day.
#Abbey Weddle# finished a stroke behind Ommen with a 152 (76-76) and finished third. She matched her first-round score of 76 in the final round, which tied her with UIU's Jill Preeshl the second-best score of the day.
#Dani Suponchick# turned in a two-day total of 156 (76-80) and tied for fourth. #Armana Christianson# tied for 11th with a 161 (80-81) and #Rebecca Pollock# tied for 13th with a 162 (79-83).
UNO's first-place finish at the UNO Fall Classic concludes an impressive fall season for the team. Of the its six tournaments, the Mavs won four of them and placed second in two.
