
Maverick Golf Enters Winter in Top 10

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO golf team cracked the top ten in the latest Golf World/NGCA Golf Coaches' Poll for Division II published in this week's issue of Golf World Magazine. The Mavericks are ranked tenth, up from 15th in the last poll and are one of just four northern schools in the top ten.
The Mavericks are ranked eighth in the West Region and 18th in scoring nationally following the fall half of their season. UNO finished the fall with a win in its own tournament, the UNO Fall Classic on Oct. 4 and 5. The Mavericks won four tournaments and finished in second twice during the fall and rank 18th in all of Division II with an average team score of 316.64.
Junior #Dani Suponchick# led the Mavs in the fall with an average score of 78.3 in nine rounds, just ahead of senior #Erin Ommen# who was second on the team at 78.7. Suponchick ranks 14th in the region in scoring while Ommen is 18th.
#Abbey Weddle# (79.8), #Armana Christianson# (80.1) and #Rebecca Pollock# (80.5) rounded out the top five scorers for UNO.
The Mavericks are the defending Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champions, winning the title in its first season in which it was contested. They will have a chance to defend that title in the spring when their season resumes. Last season, UNO fell one stroke short of appearing in the NCAA Division II National Championship tournament after finishing fourth in the West Regional.
