Mavericks Prepare For Cross Country Regional

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO cross country team heads to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional on Saturday, Nov. 7 in Abilene, Texas. The event, hosted by Abilene Christian University, will determine which teams participate in the NCAA Division II Championship to be held on Nov. 21 at the University of Southern Indiana.
The regional meet will be held over a six kilometer course in Nelson Park in Abilene. The women's race starts at 9 a.m.
The Mavericks have been led all season by the freshmen duo of #Megan Oddo and Brittany Phillips#. Oddo has finished first for the Mavericks in three races this season while Phillips has been UNO's top finisher twice. Oddo posted a career-best 6K time of 23:11 as the Mavs' top finisher in the MIAA Championships on Oct. 24. Phillips had her best 6K time (23:35) in just her second meet, the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Lincoln on Sept. 19.
Fellow freshman #Nicole Behm and junior transfer Dina Luka# have been solid contributors for the Mavericks throughout the season, usually running in the 3-4 slots. Behm has a career best time of 24:01 in the 6K on Sept. 19 while Luka posted her career-best in the 6K (24:00) at the MIAA Championships.
Sophomore #Kelly Esch# could be the wild card for UNO. After joining the team in midseason, she ran a time of 23:58 in the MIAA Championships to finish third for the Mavericks, helping her team to a surprising sixth-place finish. UNO had been picked ninth in the MIAA's annual preseason coaches poll.
