UNO Grapplers Remain No. 1 In Latest DII Rankings

EDMOND, Okla. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team is once again the unanimous No. 1 pick, according to the second regular season poll released Wednesday by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
UNO, which went undefeated in duals at 13-0, won its sixth national title last year and the fourth in the last six years, received all eight first-place votes in balloting of coaches from around the country to finish with 160 points. UNO sat atop the poll in all seven rankings last season.
Newberry claimed all eight second-place votes and stayed No. 2 with 152 points, while Nebraska-Kearney jumped from eighth to third with 134 points. Pittsburgh-Johnstown is a point behind in fourth and seven-time Division II national champion Central Oklahoma is fifth with 121 points. Rounding out the top 10 is Augustana, Western State, Wisconsin-Parkside, St. Cloud State and Adams State.
UNO has wrestlers ranked individually in seven of the 10 weight classes.
Cody Garcia (133) is No. 2, Esai Dominguez (149) fell from No. 1 to No. 4, Ryan Pankoke (165) is No. 5, Aaron Denson (174) is No. 2, Austin Boehm is No. 4, Jacob Marrs is No. 4 and Elijah Madison (285) is No. 3.
The 2010 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships will be held March 12-13 in Omaha, Neb.
Maverick grapplers will return from holiday break and get back on the mat Saturday, Jan. 2 when they travel to Blair, Neb., for the Ron Beaman Open. Wrestling is slated for a 9 a.m. start from the Gardner-Hawks Center.
