UNO Holds on to First Place After Day One Finals

OMAHA, Neb.- The Maverick swim team swam to five first place finishes for first place overall in the second session of the Mutual of Omaha Invitational at the HPER pool on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus Friday night.
The Mavs snatched up five first place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle, 200 yard freestyle, 400 yard medley relay and the 400 yard im.
Junior #Cait Hopkins# added two top finishes, one in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.36 and the other in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.96. UNO finished in the top six places of the 50 yard freestyle for the second time today to add to the team total. Junior #Lucy Zamecnik came in second followed by freshman Anna Haxby# (24.58), freshman #Cami Hansberry# (25.05), senior #Lisa Elworth# (25.28) and sophomore #Colleen Klaiber# (25.30).
UNO continued to occupy the top five places in the 200 yard freestyle. Behind Hopkins' first-place finish, junior #Laura Kemp# came in second with a time of 1:55.15 followed by Zamecnik at 1:58.25, sophomore Kylie Hubbel at 1:49.40 and Klaiber at 2:01.24.
Klaiber, Hopkins, Zamecnik and freshman #Alicia Goetz# swam to a first place final finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.21. The University of Northern Iowa team finished second with a time of 1:40.58 with the University of Colorado swim club filling out the top three with a time of 1:42.45.
The Mutual of Omaha Invite will wrap up Saturday at the HPER pool with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and finals to follow at 5 p.m.
