
Mavericks Dominate Tigers, 34-6

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team dominated No. 19 Fort Hays State University, 34-6 in its first match in the 2009 MIAA duals hosted by the University of Central Missouri. UNO will battle Truman State at 2:30 p.m. and Central Missouri at 4:00 p.m.
The Mavericks won all but one match as Cody Garcia and Ross Taplin each won by fall, while Brent Pankoke recorded a major decision in the dual. UNO forfeited the match at 197 pounds for the Tigers only points in the dual.
Matt Rein got the Mavericks on top early with a 4-3 decision against Tigers' 125-pounder Tommy Edgmon. Second-ranked Garcia followed Rein's decision by pinning FHSU's Travis Kuhn in just 1:42.
UNO won its next four matches by decisions. No. 2 Mario Morgan defeated third-ranked James Annon, 5-3 at 141 pounds, while Esai Dominguez topped Levi Younkin, 9-4. No. 1 ranked Todd Meneely remained undefeated this season with an 8-7 decision over FHSU's fourth-ranked Danny Grater.
Second-ranked Aaron Denson scored a 8-2 decision at 165 pounds against Troy Lussenhop before Taplin pinned Shawn Kuhlman in 2:40 at 174 pounds. Pankoke recorded the Mavericks' only major decision in the dual, topping Tyler Gonzales, 10-1 at 184 pounds.
After UNO forfeited the match at 197 pounds, No. 3 Tony Lewis put the finishing touches on the Tigers, scoring a 5-1 decision against Justin Glenn in the final bout.
