Mavericks Remain In Third With One Day to Go

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO swimming and diving team continued to hang on to third place after the third day of competition at the Northern Sun Championship being held at HPER Pool. The Mavericks have 615 points heading into the final day of competition on Saturday.

St. Cloud State leads the meet with a score of 682 while Minnesota State is second with 633 points. Minnesota State leads the men's meet with 540 points, ten clear of St. Cloud.

#Cait Hopkins# won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.17. The time was good enough to earn her an automatic qualifier to the national championship meet in Houston, Texas next month.

#Jessica LaFave# also qualified for the national championship meet with a time of 57.10 in the 100 yard butterfly. She finished second to St. Cloud State's Kirsten Koetter.

UNO's #Laura Kemp# took third place in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:36.93.

#Ariel Lahowetz# took home third in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.34.

In the relays, the Mavericks won the 800 yard freestyle relay. #Amy Bechdolt#, #Tessa Edwards#, Hopkins and #Lindsey Kline# finished with a time of 7:40.78, good enough to qualify for the national championship.

The Mavericks took fourth place in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Lahowetz, #Carrie Murphy#, #Sara Hallgren# and Hopkins finished in a time of 1:46.99.
