Top-Ranked Mavericks Ready For Regional

OMAHA, Neb. - The top-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team will head to Kirksville, Mo., on Sunday to compete in the 2009 NCAA II Super Region 2 championship at the Pershing Arena on the campus of Truman State University.
UNO has been ranked No. 1 in NCAA II for the entire season and has gone a perfect 13-0 in duals during its 2008-09 campaign. The Mavericks have collected wins against the past two national champions in Nebraska-Kearney and Central Oklahoma as well as last year's runner up Minnesota State University Mankato.
Nine of the Maverick's ten wrestlers are ranked in the top eight of their respective weight classes nationally, and three can lay claim to the top spot. Todd Meneely at 157, Ross Taplin at 174 and Brent Pankoke at 184 are all ranked first at their weights.
UNO returns a pair of two-time national champions in Meneely at 157 and Cody Garcia at 133, four other 2008 All-Americans in Aaron Denson (165), Taplin (174), Jacob Marrs (197) and Tony Lewis (285), as well as 2008 NCAA II national qualifier Mario Morgan (141).
The top-four place finishers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA II Nationals in Houston, Texas on Mar. 13-14 as part of the NCAA Division II Sports Festival on the Campus of University of Houston.
The Midwest Regional can be seen via webcast on the University of Nebraska at Omaha athletic website with Jim Bayly calling the action. The action begins at 12 noon with the finals scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
