Moore Battles Through for UNO in Day One of MIAA C

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - UNO pentathlete Shannon Moore overcame a rough start in the first event of the pentathlon to finish in fourth place after the first day of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association indoor track and field championhip. The three-day event kicked off today at the University of Central Missouri.
Moore hit the first hurdle in the very first event, the 60 meter hurdles, and finished in a tie for eighth at 9.8 seconds.
She later earned fifth place in the high jump with a leap of five feet, one and three-quarter inches. Her throw of 34 feet, nine and one-half inches was good for third place in the shot put. She followed that with a fifth place finish in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 11 and one-half inches.
Moore saved her best for last, winning the 800 meter run in a time of 2:24.96, edging Central Missouri's Anne Carlson by nearly a second.
Carlson won the pentathlon and teammate Lindsay Lettow finished in third place. Northwest Missouri State's Emily Churchman finished second.
The meet continues on Saturday with field events and preliminary heats for most running events.
