Mavericks Ready For Spring Golf Season

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO golf team will begin the spring half of the 2008-09 season this weekend. The Mavericks will take part in the Wayne State Invite on Sunday and Monday, March 22 and 23. It's the first of four tournaments the Mavs will take part in before the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championship in Kansas City, Mo. from April 19 through 21.
Head coach #Tim Nelson#'s squad is coming off a solid fall campaign. The Mavericks finished with three straight wins and also registered a second-, third- and fifth-place finish.
Junior #Erin Ommen# had strong fall season. She set a new school record with a low round of 68 on Oct. 3 and registered three sub-par rounds. She was the individual medalist in four of the six tournaments during the fall.
The Mavericks' roster will not change this spring. Its five-woman crew also includes sophomore captain #Dani Suponchick#, junior #Abbey Weddle#, sophomore #Amy Powell and freshman Rebecca Pollock#. Weddle, a Kansas native, is the only UNO golfer who does not hail from Nebraska.
UNO will host its one home tournament of the year, the Ironwood UNO Collegiate Invitational, at Ironwood Country Club on Sunday and Monday, April 5 and 6. The Mavericks also will host an NCAA Division II regional tournament at Ironwood from May 4 through 6.
