SEASIDE, Calif. - The UNO golf team shaved 19 strokes off its team score from the first round to finish in fourth place at the Lady Otter Invitational hosted by California State University Monterey Bay. Junior #Erin Ommen# led the Mavericks' comeback from a disappointing first day with a final round score of 76.
The Mavericks finished with a two-day score of 663, just one stroke behind third-place Sonoma State University. California Baptist University won with a team score of 641, three strokes better than host Cal State Monterey Bay which finished in second. The tournament featured golfers from 13 schools.
Reigning MIAA golfer of the week #Abbey Weddle# shot an 81 in the final round to finish with a two-day total of 163, best on the team. She was tied for 11th overall. Ommen's strong finish was one of the low rounds of the day and put her second among the Mavericks with a score of 164. #Dani Suponchick# finished with an 81 and a two-day score of 165 to finish third on the team. #Amy Powell# was fourth after firing an 84 to finish at 174. #Rebecca Pollock# had a 95 and a two-day total of 182.
California Baptists' Malin Thorberg was the individual medalist with a two-day total of 151. Anne Balser of Victoria University of British Columbia was second overall at 157.
The Mavericks return home to host their only tournament of the season, the Ironwood UNO Collegiate Golf Invitational, on Sunday and Monday, April 5 and 6, at Ironwood Country Club.
