Mavericks Audition For Jobs In Spring Football Gam

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO football team spent Saturday evaluating players who could fill some key positions when the 2009 season begins in the fall. The Mavericks held their annual spring game in front of more than 500 fans at Caniglia Field on the UNO campus.
Sophomore Aaron Konicek from Clarkson, Neb. caught two touchdown passes, both from redshirt freshman quarterback John Teigland. The first went for 70 yards down the near sideline during the second quarter. The second was a 30 yard toss from Teigland late in the third quarter.
Junior college transfer Jon Daniels saw a majority of the snaps at quarterback due to an injury to senior Greg Wunderlich in practice earlier in the week. Daniels ran eight yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and completed the scoring late with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Micah Fisher.
Senior tailback Robert Wesley led all Maverick rushers with 84 yards on the ground.
The Mavericks will begin the 2009 season on Thursday, August 27 when they host East Central University at 7 p.m.
