Moore Off To Good Start For UNO In Heptathlon Cham

MARYVILLE, Mo. – UNO heptathlete #Shannon Moore# hit a personal best in the 100 meter hurdles on her way to the overall lead in the women's heptathlon after the first day of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association outdoor track and field championship. Through the first four events, Moore had a 210 point lead over her nearest competitor.
The MIAA holds the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon one weekend earlier than the remainder of the track and field events. The heptathlon and decathlon conclude tomorrow. The women will compete in the long jump, the javelin throw and the 800 meter dash.
Moore has 3,088 points after the first day. Lindsay Lettow and Jenna Schmidt of Central Missouri are second and third respectively with 2,878 points and 2,812 points. Emily Churchman of Northwest Missouri State, which is hosting the events, is in fourth place with 2,789 points.
Moore hit her PR in the first event, running the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.35, good for second place. She also finished second in the high jump with a leap of five feet, five inches. She earned third place in the shot put with a mark of 33 feet, two inches and had first overall in the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.66. She was the only athlete to break 26 seconds in the event.
The athletes battled wind and rain in the first day of competition. The shot put and high jump were each moved indoors because of the weather.
