
Ommen Named MIAA Golf Athlete of Week

OMAHA, Neb. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced Tuesday that University of Nebraska at Omaha golfer #Erin Ommen# was named the women's golf athlete of the week. She is the third UNO golfer to be so recognized following #Abbey Weddle and Dani Suponchick#.
Ommen, a junior from Omaha, Neb., led four Mavericks in the top five among individuals at the MIAA Championship which concluded April 21 at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo.
Ommen had the low score in a windy first round with a three-over 75. That helped her finish with a 36-hole total of 153 -- nine-over on the par 72 layout. UNO captured the inaugural MIAA women's golf championship with a four-player score of 651 -- 27 strokes ahead of runner-up Truman.
Ommen is a graduate of Millard North High School.
The Mavericks will host the NCAA Division II West Regional at Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Omaha on May 4 – 6. The event is open to the public. Action begins each day at 8:30 a.m. The top three teams and three individuals will advance to the national championship in Findlay, Ohio later in the month.
