
Spring Game On Tap For UNO Football

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO football team will finish off its spring practice season with the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. at Caniglia Field on the UNO campus. The game is free and open to the public.
Head coach Pat Behrns and his staff have been running the team through four practices a week since the middle of March. Following the departure of 21 seniors, the Mavericks have been auditioning players for several key positions including quarterback, running back and linebacker.
The Mavericks went 7-4 last season, their first in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. They made their fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Playoffs, losing to MIAA foe Pittsburg State in the first round.
The Mavericks will host an Easter egg hunt prior to the game, sponsored by Cox Communications and Shopko. Children 12 and under can register for the event beginning at 11 a.m. The hunt begins at 12 noon.
UNO also will announce its spring football award winners at halftime.
The Maverick Beef Club, the official booster club of UNO football, will host its annual Kick-Off Party following the game at D.J.'s Dugout at 114th and Dodge. For more information on the event, click here.
UNO begins the 2009 season on Thursday, August 27 when it hosts East Central University of Oklahoma at 7:00 p.m. Following a game at Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, September 5, the Mavericks will play their first MIAA game on Saturday, September 12 when they host Truman State at 6 p.m.
