UNO Hosts NCAA Golf Regional Next Week

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO golf team will host the NCAA Division II West Regional from Monday through Wednesday, May 4 – 6 at Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Omaha. Players will tee off each morning at 8:30 a.m.
The Mavericks won the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association title on April 21st in Kansas City, Mo. They also boast three MIAA athletes of the week in #Abbey Weddle#, #Dani Suponchick and Erin Ommen#. #Rebecca Pollock and Amy Powell# round out the fivesome.
Ommen has been an individual medalist in five tournaments this season including a win at the MIAA tournament. She has posted the Mavericks' low round of the year at 146 at the Drury University Fall Shootout back in September. Weddle was the top individual at the Wayne State Spring Invite in March while posting a score of 157. Suponchick fired a season-best 153 at the Tarleton State Coca-Cola Classic in April and was the fifth overall finisher in the seventeen-team tournament.
The Mavericks are seeded ninth in the West Region, also known as Super Region Four, and they are tied for 16th in the nation in the most recent Golf World/NGCA Division II poll. Seven other teams in the top 20, including three in the top 10, also will play in the West Region. St. Edward's of Texas is the top seed in the regional and is ranked ninth in the nation. Second-seeded Tarleton State of Texas is seventh nationally, and fourth-seeded California State Monterey Bay is ranked tenth in the nation.
Western Washington, Sonoma State (California), West Texas A&M, Central Oklahoma and California State-Chico complete the nine-team field. Additionally, individual golfers from Angelo State (Texas), Northeastern State (Oklahoma), Grand Canyon University (Arizona) and Dallas Baptist (Texas) will take part in the tournament.
