Tough Schedule Ends With Chance to Defend Title a

2009-10 Schedule
A tough dual schedule against four top-10 teams will challenge the Mavericks in the 2009-10 regular season before they get a chance to defend their national championship at home as they host the national tournament that will close out the upcoming season.
Nebraska-Omaha will play in 10 open tournaments, two dual tournaments and eight single duals. The season will begin November 7 at the South Dakota State Daktronics Open and the first home tournament will be the Kaufman-Brand Open on November 21.
The defending national champion Mavericks will also get a chance to defend their NWCA National Duals championship on January 9 and 10 as Northern Iowa hosts the event and then the Mavs will host their first home dual of the year January 15 against Lindenwood (Mo.). The UNO Brand Open will be the following day.
Included in their road schedule are three duals in a one-week span from January 23 through January 30 against top 10 teams from last year. Nebraska-Kearney finished fourth, Central Oklahoma was sixth and St. Cloud State was eighth in last year's national tournament that the Mavericks won.
The Mavs will host third-place Minnesota State on February 10 at Sapp Fieldhouse and 21st-place Augustana on February 17 to highlight the home dual schedule.
The MIAA Duals against the other three Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association schools with wrestling will take place February 14 at Fort Hays State and then the postseason will begin February 28 as Central Missouri hosts the NCAA Super Region 2 tournament.
The Mavs will host the national championship tournament March 12 and 13 in Sapp Fieldhouse. They last hosted and won the event in 2004-05.
Nebraska-Omaha sent 10 wrestlers to the national tournament last year and won the national championship with a record 146.5 points, 66 more than the nearest competitor. The Mavs went 13-0 in duals, won the NWCA National Duals, the MIAA Duals and the Super Region 2 tournament.
