OMAHA, Neb.- The Maverick cross country team kicked off its season with a third place finish at the UNO/Creighton Classic at Chili Greens in Omaha. UNO earned 64 points trailing Nebraska and Creighton on Saturday morning.
Nebraska runner Erica Hamik lead her teammates with a time of 18:57 to finish first. The Huskers filled the top five spots to earn 15 points. Hannah Connealy of Creighton finished in sixth place at 20:23 helping the Bluejays finish second with 48 points. UNO finished third ahead of York College.
Freshman Brittany Phillips finished first for the Mavs with a time of 20:30 for an eighth place finish overall. Fellow freshman Megan Oddo came in at ninth place with a time of 20:37. Redshirt freshman Dina Luka followed with a time of 21:41 for 14th ahead of freshman Nicole Behm at 15th with a time of 21:48.
Next up for the Mavericks is a trip to Lincoln, Neb. on September 19 for the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneer Park.
