Torneden Earns MIAA Player of the Week Nod

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - University of Nebraska at Omaha freshman Camren Torneden has been named the MIAA's special teams player of the week after his long kickoff return helped the Mavericks defeat Pittsburg State last weekend.
Torneden ran back a pair of kickoffs for a total of 131 yards. His 94-yarder in the second quarter broke a 13-13 tie and gave the Mavericks the lead for good in their 48-27 triumph over the Gorillas.
The 5-8, 170-pound running back also had three carries in the game for 15 yards. For the season, he is averaging 38.1 yards on eight kickoff returns. Earlier this year, he returned a kickoff 92 yards to the Fort Hays State eight-yard-line, setting up a Mavericks field goal.
It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a Maverick since Keith Eloi ran one back 80 yards at Central Washington in 2007.
