Mavs Host Missouri Western in Final Home Game

The University of Nebraska at Omaha football team closes its home schedule this weekend, hosting Missouri Western State at Al F. Caniglia Field. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. The Senior Day contest will mark the final home appearance for 16 Mavericks. The game pits two teams involved in a three-way tie for third place in the MIAA. Both are 4-3 in the conference. UNO enters the MIAA contest at 4-5 overall and Missouri Western State is 6-3 on the season.
The Series
UNO has won both of the previous meetings in the series with Missouri Western. The Mavericks took a 42-14 decision in 2008 in Omaha and last year defeated the Griffons 30-21 at St. Joseph, Mo. Both have been MIAA contests.
Last Week
Nebraska-Omaha never trailed in claiming a 48-27 victory at Pittsburg State last Saturday. Sophomore QB John Teigland completed 15 of 19 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns, while James Franklin III and Levi Terrell each ran for a pair of scores. Freshman Camren Torneden added a 94-yard kickoff return midway through the second quarter, giving the Mavs the lead for good, 20-13. Tiegland's scoring passes included a six-yarder to senior tight end Mike Higgins in the second quarter and an 11-yarder to freshman fullback Ryan Maloley midway through the final period. UNO gained 423 yards in total offense to the Gorillas' 366. Terrell led UNO with 94 rushing yards and Brian Miller had five receptions for 120 yards.
Missouri Western ended a two-game losing skid Saturday, registering a 42-14 home-field win over Emporia State. QB Drew Newart passed for 289 yards and two touchdowns, with his primary target, Andrew Mead, gathering in 11 passes for 126 yards and two TDs. RB Thomas Hodges rushed for 72 yards and scored three times.
The Coaches
Pat Behrns, the winningest football coach in UNO history, is now in his 17th UNO season and will bring a 123-67 (.647) record into Saturday's game at Central Missouri. The 1972 graduate of Dakota State College has led UNO to 14 consecutive winning seasons and eight appearances in the NCAA playoffs. The Mavs also have won seven conference titles. Behrns, a native of David City, Neb., has a career record of 159-94 (.628) in 22 seasons as a head coach at both UNO and North Dakota. Behrns is 2-0 vs. MWSU.
Missouri Western head coach Jerry Partridge is 101-58 in his 14th season with the Griffons. Partridge guided the Griffons to a 9-3 mark last year, including a 6-3 record in the MIAA, which was good for a tie for second place.

The Mavericks end the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 13 with an MIAA game at Truman State University. Kickoff in Kirksville, Mo., will be at 2:20 p.m. The game will be televised by the MIAA Network.
