Three Mavs Named to Football Gazette All-Super Reg

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Three members of the 2010 UNO football team were named to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-Super Region Four Team, released on Wednesday. Offensive lineman Dennis Bergland earned first-team honors, while fellow lineman Harrison Lingenfelter and tight end Mike Higgins made the second team.
All three are two-time honorees on Don Hansen's All-Super Region Four Team, as Higgins was a first-team selection in 2009, while Bergland and Lingenfelter were both third-team selections.
The awards add to an already impressive list compiled by the Mavs' trio of seniors this postseason.
Bergland and Lingenfelter were named Daktronics' Second-Team All-Americans last week, after earning All-Super Region Four First-Team and All-MIAA First-Team honors after the season. Higgins was named to the All-MIAA Second Team after the season, and both Higgins and Lingenfelter were selected to compete in the Cactus Bowl on Jan. 7, 2011.
Bergland, a native of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Lingenfelter, from Plainview, Neb., started all 11 games for the Mavs, helping anchor an offensive line that led the Mavs to the second-best rushing offense (202.6 ypg) in the MIAA and the fourth-best scoring offense (34.8 ppg).
Higgins, a Pickrell, Neb., native, was the leading receiver for the Mavs' high-powered offense, making 39 catches for 600 yards this season (54.5 ypg). He also caught a team-best seven touchdowns.
