KANSAS CITY, Mo. - UNO track and field athletes #Anja Puc and Nkeiruka Domike# have been named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Women's Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 8-14 as selected by a conference SID panel. It is the second consecutive week that Puc and Domike have swept the awards. Puc now has three honors in 2010, while Domike has two.
Puc bettered her own top time in the 800 meters at the Husky Classic, finishing in 2:07.89. That is an automatic qualifying mark and a new school record for the junior from Medvode, Slovenia. It was just her second time running the event this season. Puc's time is the best nationally by nearly three seconds and is the best mark in the MIAA by almost eight full seconds.
Domike improved her national-leading mark in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, seven inches at the Husky Classic. Her automatic-qualifying mark is best in Division II by more than a foot and leads the MIAA by almost two feet. It is also a school record for the junior from Rivers-State, Nigeria.
Also today, the latest national rankings were released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Mavericks slipped one spot to fourth place. They are the highest ranked MIAA team in the poll.
UNO is back in action on Friday, Feb. 19 when they take part in the Nebraska Tune-Up in Lincoln. The events begin at 2 p.m.
