Mavs Host No. 6 Augustana in Final Dual of the Sea

Weekly Wrestling Notes
The top-ranked Mavericks will close out the dual portion of the 2009-10 schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 17 when the sixth-ranked Augustana Vikings (11-5) visit Omaha. UNO has won seven-straight duals and is 3-0 at home this season. Wednesday's dual is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Sapp Fieldhouse and can be seen live on NET2.
A Look At The Vikings
No. 6 Augustana is 11-5 overall in duals on the year, and sports a 6-1 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference which is good enough for second place. The Vikings' last win came against Minnesota State, Moorhead 28-9 on Feb. 11. Augie is 5-2 in true road duals this season.
The Dual History
Wednesday's dual will mark the 38th time that the Mavericks and Vikings have squared off, which is the most of any other opponent UNO has faced. Only North Dakota State and South Dakota State have battled the Mavericks in duals more times with 37 meetings before the two programs made the switch to Division I. UNO is 27-10-0 all-time against Augustana since the first-ever meeting during the 1963-64 season.

Wednesday's dual with Augustana will be broadcast live on NET2, which can be found on channel 16 of the Cox Cable lineup. Torri Pantaleon will call the action with former UNO standout Pat Kelley III providing the color commentary. UNO TV will be producing the broadcast.

The Coaches
Mike Denney is in his 31st season as the Maverick head coach. Last week at the 2010 MIAA Duals, Denney reached a career milestone when he earned his 300th career win at UNO. The Dakota Wesleyan graduate has a 301-110-5 (.730) career mark. He has been named the NCAA II National Coach of the Year three times and led the 1991, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009 Mavericks to NCAA Division II national championships.
Augustana is led by Jason Reitmeier who is in his seventh season as head coach of the Vikings. His dual record currently stands at 68-40.
Dual Delight
The Mavericks are 12-1 in dual meets this season. The squad is 3-0 at home, 6-0 in neutral site duals and 3-1 in true road contests on the year with three shutouts. UNO grapplers are 106-24 (.815) in the 130 dual matches they have wrestled in. The Mavericks have outscored their opponents 440-82 on the year through ten duals.
The 53 points the Mavs put up in their win over Truman State on Feb. 14 is the highest output of the season. It was the biggest dual win by a UNO team since a 53-0 rout of St. Cloud State on Jan. 26, 2006. The 18 points Augsburg amassed in its win over UNO on Jan. 22 are the most points surrendered by the Mavs in a dual all year.
When the Mavs blanked the Mules and Bulldogs at the MIAA Duals, it marked the third time in program history that a Maverick wrestling team recorded three dual shutouts in a season. The team did it during the 1967-68 and 1969-70 seasons. The 1978-79 UNO wrestling team owns the all-time school record with four dual shutouts in a season.
UNO is 7-0 against NCAA Division II nationally-ranked opponents this season. The Mavs have defeated St. Cloud State and Minnesota State twice, Newberry, Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State.
