OMAHA, Neb. – The Maverick swim team finished on top in three events for third place after the second day of action in the Midwestern Collegiate Championships in the UNO HPER Pool.
Sophomore #Amy Bechdolt# kicked off the scoring for the Mavs in the 500 yard freestyle where she swam to a first place finish with a time of 5:07.44.
Later, in the 400 medley relay, UNO, Saint Cloud State and Minnesota State put on a nail biting race for the top three spots. In the final leg, #Cait Hopkins swam from behind SCSU's April Greene to earn first place. Sophomores Ariel Lahowetz# , #Colleen Klaiber and juniors Laura Kemp# and Hopkins finished with a time of 3:53.44 followed by SCSU at 3:54.21 and MSU at 3:55.69.
Kemp picked up a first place finish earlier in the night in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:07.25 for 26 points. Freshman #Mattie Fosbender# added ten of her own points for 11th place with a time of 2:16.37.
UNO has 351 points in third place behind SCSU at first with 436 points and MSU with 397. The University of Colorado club team follows UNO with 118 points ahead of Morningside College with 92 and the College of Saint Mary with 72.
The Midwestern Collegiate Championships continue Friday morning with the prelims beginning at 10 a.m. in the UNO HPER Pool.
