WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The UNO golf team posted a 23-shot improvement in round two to finish sixth at the Midwestern State Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. It was the largest jump of any team in the ten-team field. The Mavericks were playing in their first tournament of the spring season.
West Texas A&M won the event with a two-day total of 635. Host Midwestern State finished second at 643 and Central Oklahoma, the leader after the first round, finished third at 651.
Four of UNO's golfters improved their scores from round one. #Erin Ommen# shot a 79 on Tuesday for a tournament total of 165, tying her with #Dani Suponchick# who shot a closing round 80. #Rebecca Pollock# carded a 12-shot improvement in round two, finishing with a 78, UNO's best score of the day. She shot 168 for the tournment.
#Abbey Weddle shot 87 to post a two-day score of 171 while Armana Christianson# carded an 84 in round two to finish at 173.
Central Oklahoma's Erica Bensch was the individual medalist with a two-day score of 154.
The Mavericks head west next week to compete in the Lady Otter Spring Invitational hosted by California State Monterey Bay. The two-day event kicks off on Monday, March 29 in Seaside, Calif.
