Moore Withdraws From MIAA Heptathlon Championship

JOPLIN, Mo. - Senior #Shannon Moore# withdrew from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Heptathlon Championship after three events due to injury. While the extent of her injury is not thought to be serious, UNO's coaches made the precautionary move.
"Shannon is too important to our team to risk aggravating an otherwise minor injury," said head coach Steve Smith. "We have to be cautious because she has a chance to play a significant role for us in the national meet."
Moore struggled in the opening event, the 100 meter hurdles. She finishing last in the field with a time of 22.42 after hitting the first hurdle.
She did bounce back to take second place in the high jump with a leap of five feet, four and a half inches.
She also took eighth place in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, one-half inch before withdrawing prior to the 200 meter dash.
The remaining events of the heptathlon and decathlon championship will be held tomorrow at Missouri Southern. All remaining events in the MIAA outdoor championship will be held at Pittsburg State beginning next Saturday.
