Puc Wins 800 at National Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNO's #Anja Puc# ran a school record time in winning the 800 meters on the final day of competition at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship. The win gave her national titles in the 800 both indoors and outdoors this year.
UNO finished the meet in a tie with fellow Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association member Emporia State for 14th place with 18 points. Angelo State won the national championship with 87 points. Lincoln University of Missouri was second with 73 points, and Grand Valley State finished third with 47 points.
Puc ran a time of 2:04.25, the fastest time in the nation this season and the fourth-fastest time in Division II all time. The previous best time in D-2 this season was 2:04.89 run by Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific who did not start the 800 race. Puc won by more than two seconds over Andria Nussey of Angelo State and broke her own school record of 2:05.91 set last summer.
Puc won the 800 meters at the indoor national championship back in March with a time of 2:07.14.
The Mavericks' other race of the day was the 4x400 meter relay. UNO's team of #Maja Mihalinec#, #Kayla Koepke#, Puc and #Shannon Moore# finished in fifth place with a time of 3:42.69, less than four seconds behind winner Angelo State. The Mavericks' quartet was less than a second and a half from the school record of 3:41.43. UNO was without standout senior #Pinar Saka# who was injured.
