Jun 1, 2010 | General
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - UNO tight end Mike Higgins is one of three male finalists for the Ken B. Jones Award, given annually by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The award is given in memory of former MIAA commissioner Ken B. Jones who was the first to serve in that capacity on a full-time basis.
The award is presented to a male and female athlete for season-long and career achievement on the field of play, in the classroom and in the community. The winners will be announced at the MIAA's Awards Dinner which will be held on Thursday, June 10 in Kansas City.
The three male finalists are all football players. In addition to Higgins, Myles Burnsides of Northwest Missouri State and Zach Watkins of Washburn are the other finalists.
On the women's side, the finalists are Emporia State basketball player Cassondra Boston, Central Missouri volleyball and softball player Caitlin Pankratz and Missouri Southern runner Kimi Shank. UNO's Anja Puc was nominated for the award but did not make the list of finalists.
This is the first year a UNO student-athlete has made the list of finalists.
