Sigman Earns Spot on U.S. World Team

Former Nebraska-Omaha wrestling standout Les Sigman continued his success at the World level, winning the 264.5-pound (120 kilograms) freestyle on June 12 in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the Mid-America Center, which hosted Saturday's United States World Team Trials.
The 264.5-pound freestyle match pitted Sigman against long-time rival Tervel Dlagnev, formerly of Univerisity Nebraska at Kearney.
Sigman edged Dlagnev 1-0 and 2-1 in the first match, followed by 3-3 and 4-1 wins in the second. In the second match, Sigman turned both a late tie and deficit into leads in the final 30 seconds.
Sigman has now won three straight and is now 4-3 all-time against Dlagnev since the two battled regularly in college. While at UNO, Sigman owned a 9-0 all-time record against Dlagnev on the mat and won his fourth national title as a senior against the Bulgarian native.
The win earns Sigman a spot on the U.S. team that travels to Moscow in early September for the World Championships.
The Sturgis, S.D., product is UNO's most decorated wrestler, owning the all-time career wins mark with a 179-7 record from 2003-2006, and is the only Maverick to ever win four individual national titles.
Sigman is currently coaching on the Penn State Nittany Lion Wrestling Club.
