Five Mavs Named To All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Five athletes on the UNO track and field team were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team. Those Mavericks named included #Anja Puc#, a national champion in the 800 meters both indoors and outdoors, as well as #Kayla Koepke#, #Lianne McNaughton#, #Maja Mihalinec and Heather Minssen#.
A record 276 student-athletes were named to the list nationwide.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division II indoor or outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
In other track and field news, UNO triple jumper #Nkeiruka Domike# took second place at the CAA Safaricom African Senior Athletics Championship on Sunday. Domike, representing Nigeria, posted a leap of 45 feet, behind only Sarah Nambawa who jumped 45 feet, 9 1/4 inches for Uganda. Nambawa competed collegiately for Middle Tennessee State and was the Division I runner-up in the event last spring.
