Fall Athletes Meet Media

OMAHA, Neb. - Players and coaches from the Maverick's fall sports met with local television, radio and print journalists as part of UNO's fall media day. The event featured representatives from soccer, volleyball, golf and cross country.
The UNO soccer team kicks off its season on Friday, Sept. 3 at the Broncho Invitational hosted by Central Oklahoma. Coach Don Klosterman and sophomore #Bri Exstrom#, a transfer from Nebraska, spoke with media members. The Mavericks are ranked second in the MIAA's annual preseason coaches poll.
Coach Rose Shires and players #Brittany Hanssen and Lizzy Mach# represented the volleyball team which also begins its season on Sept. 3 with the 10-team UNO Volleyball Showcase at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavs will play two games on both Friday and Saturday in one of two preseason tournaments. UNO opens the MIAA schedule at home against Missouri Southern on Sept. 15.
Members of the media also had a chance to speak with golf coach #Tim Nelson and junior Rebecca Pollock# about the Mavs' upcoming season. UNO returns six letter winners from last year's team which won the MIAA championship for the second straight year. The Mavs will open the season on Sept. 9 when they tee off in the Iowa Western Fall Invite in Council Bluffs.
Coach Steve Smith and runners #Nicole Behm# and newcomer Marielle Svardh also spoke with the media. The cross country team finished a surprising sixth in last year's MIAA championship meet and returns three letter winners from last year's team including Behm, #Megan Oddo and Brittany Phillips#.
