UNO Track and Field Ranked Fourth in Preseason Ran

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The UNO indoor track and field team is ranked fourth in the annual pre-season rankings released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday. The ranking come out in advance of the start of UNO's indoor season which begins on Friday, Jan. 14 at the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by Nebraska.
This is the first year the USTFCCCA has released pre-season rankings.
The Mavericks are one of six teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association ranked in the top 25. Conference newcomer and perennial power Lincoln University is ranked third. The Blue Tigers are the three-time defending NCAA Division II indoor champions. The other ranked MIAA schools are Central Missouri (6), Fort Hays State (9), Missouri Southern (19) and Pittsburg State (21).
UNO is the two-time defending indoor champion in the MIAA.
UNO returns two individual national champions who helped the school to a fourth-place finish at the 2010 indoor championship. Senior short distance specialist #Anja Puc# won the 800 meters both indoors and outdoors last season and is the school record holder in the event. #Nkeiruka Domike# was the indoor national champion in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 42-2 1/4.
UNO also returns senior #Heather Minssen# who finished third in the shot put at the indoor nationals. The Mavericks also got top-eight performances at the NCAA indoor meet from sprinters #Maja Mihalinec# (60 meter dash, 4 x 400 meter relay) and #Kayla Koepke# (400 meters, 4 x 400 meter relay). Puc was the fourth member of the 4 x 400 meter relay which finished third at nationals.
The MIAA Indoor Championship will be held on Feb. 25-27 at Central Missouri. The NCAA Division II Indoor Championship will be on March 11 and 12 at Adams State in Albuquerque, N.M.
