EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The UNO men's golf team is in ninth place after the first two round of the DoubleTree Invitational at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Monday. The event is the last of the fall season for the Mavericks.
UNO posted a team score of 639 after rounds of 324-315. Host SIUE leads the 11-team tournament with a combined score of 585. Evansville is right behind at 588 while Missouri State lurks in third at 589.
Mitch Johnson shot back-to-back rounds of 79 over the 6,642-yard layout at the Sunset Hills Country Club to lead the Mavs in scoring. He's tied for 35th overall.
Michael Shukis is second for UNO and tied for 38th overall after carding rounds of 80 and 79 for a 159. Karl Krieser played the first round in 83 and closed with a 79 for a score of 162, good for a tie for 45th with teammate Taylor Sidzyik and South Dakota's Tyler Zahn. Sidzyik's second-round score of 78 was UNO's best round of the day.
Alex Holtan was fifth for UNO with a score of 165.
The final round begins with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m.
