OMAHA, Neb. -- The UNO swimming & diving team swam to first place in all nine swimming events to finish with a meet-leading 782 points on the first day of the Mutual of Omaha Invite on Friday at HPER Pool.
Senior Colleen Klaiber led the Mavs with two first-place showings in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 free with times of 24.06 and 58.06, respectively.
It was UNO's 200 free relay team that started the momentum, giving the Mavericks their first victory of the night. Klaiber, junior Cami Hansberry and sophomores Kylie Rathbone and Whitney Korgan posted a time of 1:36.08
to win the event.
Nebraska Omaha finished with the top six places in the 400 individual medley, led by freshman Lexi Bergeron, whose time of 4:33.50 paced the field. Sophomore Maddie Hutt and freshman Christen Young followed up in second and third, respectively.
Rathbone gave the Mavericks their third win of the night in the 100-yard breaststoke, notching a time of 1:05.17, and sophomore Erin Wright scored points in the 200 free with a winning mark of 1:56.33. Freshman Jenna Foiles then clocked 2:08.47 in the 200-yard backstroke for the event win.
The 400 medley relay team of Foiles, Klaiber, Rathbone and Hutt then capped the night with a first-place mark of 53.72.
"I am very pleased with two parts of our invite," Head Coach Todd Samland said. "The first is that our team had a fantastic swim tonight. We have not had so many great swims in one night in a long time. We have always been capable, but this time it all clicked.
"Secondly, our meet management staff has been doing an amazing job -- two teams actually stopped to compliment them on the meet. It is not an easy task to get 200 athletes organized and for a meet to flow well. This has been a great day for the UNO swimming & diving program."
The Mutual of Omaha Invite continues Saturday, Dec. 3 at HPER Pool on the UNO campus. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., and finals are set for 5 p.m.
