Mavericks Win Third Straight MIAA Duals in Dominat

OMAHA, Neb. -- The No. 1 UNO wrestling team won its third straight MIAA Duals with three dominating performances on Sunday at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks (11-1) opened with a 33-9 win over Truman, then followed with a 34-6 win over Central Missouri and a 43-4 win over No. 19 Fort Hays State.
Top-ranked George Ivanov led the way for the Mavericks with three falls on the day. Ivanov doubled his season falls total in one day alone. No. 1 Esai Dominguez and No. 4 Matt Baker also went 3-0 for UNO. Baker earned the Newcomer of the Duals award for his performance, which included a fall, major decision and decision.
No. 1 Mario Morgan (2-0), Nathan Sigman (2-0), No. 3 Ryan Pankoke (1-0), No. 4 Aaron Denson (2-0) and No. 7 Taylor Escamilla (1-1) also turned in strong performances. The Mavs also got big contributions for the first time this year in a dual from Josh Keszler (2-0), Josh Heckendorn (1-0), Brett Rosedale (2-0), Mark Fiala (1-0) and Zack Wilcox (1-0).
Keszler came out of a redshirt season to wrestle to a 10-3 decision over Fort Hays State's Rory Wilkinson at 125 pounds. Keszler also picked up a win by forfeit against Central Missouri.
Sigman recorded the biggest upset of the day, earning a dominant 6-2 decision over No. 7 Travis Budke of Fort Hays State.
With UNO trailing 4-3 after two weights against Fort Hays State, Morgan was in a tough spot against No. 5 Andre Harrison, trailing 10-8 with 11 seconds remaining. Morgan, though, held the riding time bonus point and had the down position. Morgan reversed Harrison, then earned a pin with one second remaining in the match to give UNO a shocking 9-4 lead.
That pin kickstarted a string of three straight Maverick pins, as UNO won the last eight matches of the dual with Fort Hays State for the title.
UNO will compete in its final dual of the season this Wednesday at No. 2 Augustana at 7 p.m.
