Domike Earns Second MIAA Track and Field Honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - UNO triple jumper #Nkeiruka Domike# was named the co-winner of the MIAA's Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Week award for the field events on Tuesday. It's the second time she's received the honor this season.
Domike shares the award with Nicole Green, a thrower from Missouri Southern.
Domike posted the 19th-best triple jump in the world this year with a leap of 45-1 ¾ at the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas. It is the longest triple jump in Division II history, indoors or outdoors, breaking the old mark of 44-4 set in June of 1990. It is the longest jump in Division II this year by nearly five feet and is the top mark in the MIAA by almost five-and-a-half feet. She finished second at the meet to an athlete from Florida State. Domike, the defending NCAA champion in the event indoors, has automatically qualified for this year's national championship.
Also today, the Mavericks dropped to fifth in the latest rankings issued by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Mavs had been ranked as high as third last week. UNO was able to maintain a top five spot due to performances like Domike's at Arkansas last week.
The Mavericks return to action at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 18 at 12:30 p.m. It's their final meet before the MIAA championships on Feb. 25-27 in Warrensburg, Mo. The Mavs are the two-time defending indoor champions.
