Mavs Ready for Rematch with No. 2 Augustana

The No. 1 UNO wrestling team will put its top ranking on the line tonight, as the Mavericks travel to No. 2 Augustana (S.D.) for a showdown between the top two teams in the nation. The dual will begin at 7 p.m.
The Mavericks defeated the Vikings 17-15 in the championship dual at the NWCA Duals back on Jan. 9, 2011. That loss is the only one of the season for Augustana. UNO's only loss came on Jan. 21 vs. St. Cloud State (19-18). UNO has won six duals in a row, while Augustana has won eight in a row.
A number of high-profile matches will occur, including a few between wrestlers who are more than familiar with each other.
Josh Keszler will be making his second straight appearance in the Maverick lineup at 125 pounds. The freshman from Sturgis, S.D., competed in his first varsity match on Sunday vs. Fort Hays State and pulled out a 10-3 win. Keszler (21-9) will face senior Al Meger (18-7).
At 133 pounds, Trent Cox (18-9) will wrestle Jason Jeremiason, who with a 17-3 record is just outside the top eight nationally.
One of the premier matches of the night will take place at 141 pounds. No. 1 Mario Morgan (21-4) will take on No. 4 Jay Sherer (17-4) for the fifth time in their careers. Morgan owns a 3-1 record against Sherer, but Sherer's win earned him the national championship in 2010. Morgan defeated Sherer this year at the NWCA National Duals, 4-2.
UNO's three top-ranked wrestlers will all face ranked opponents from Augustana. At 149 pounds, No. 1 Esai Dominguez (31-3) will meet No. 6 Jay Herda (17-6) on the mat for the fourth time. Dominguez is 2-1 against Herda all-time, but Herda beat Dominguez 7-3 at the NWCA National Duals this year.
Then at 157 pounds, No. 1 George Ivanov (25-3) will square off against No. 3 Marcus Edgington (18-4). Ivanov is 3-1 against Edgington all-time and defeated him 8-6 at the NWCA National Duals.
Nathan Sigman (21-20) will take the mat at 165 pounds against No. 4 Gavin Nelson (24-5). Nelson and Sigman have battled to three close matches in the past, with Nelson coming out the winner all three times (2-0, 1-0, 5-2).
At 174 pounds, No. 3 Ryan Pankoke (32-2) will rematch against No. 7 Carl Serck (22-4), whom Pankoke earned an 11-1 major decision against at the NWCA National Duals earlier this year.
No. 3 Aaron Denson (25-6) will wrestle a redshirt freshman, but who that will be from Augustana has not been determined yet. It will either be Tom Davies (8-9), or Omaha native Sean Derry (21-10).
197 pounds will feature No. 4 Matt Baker (25-7) against No. 2 Ty Copsey (16-1) of Augustana. Copsey defeated Baker 3-2 this year at the NWCA National Duals.
Capping off the weights, No. 7 Taylor Escamilla (28-12) is slated to wrestle Lance Peters (10-7). Escamilla owns two wins over Peters this year, a 3-1 decision and one by injury default.
The Mavericks' quest for a third straight national championship will begin Feb. 25-26 at the Midwest Regional Championships.
