Mavs Third After Opening Day of Conference Meet

OMAHA, Neb. -- The UNO swimming and diving team sits in third place after day one of the 2011 Midwestern Collegiate Championships on Wednesday at the HPER Swimming Pool on the UNO campus. Opening day action included only the men's and women's 1,000 freestyle finals.
Nebraska-Omaha has a total of 52 points after the first day, behind St. Cloud State (64) and Minnesota State (62).
Junior #Amy Bechdolt# took third in the 1,000 free, clocking in at 10:42.67, while freshman #Riley Smith# finished sixth with a time of 10:58.88. Freshman #Katie Keen# also placed eighth with a mark of 11:16.23, accounting for 13 points. Bechdolt's finish gave the Mavs 21 points, and Smith's was worth 18.
St. Cloud State's Dayna Nellis (10.35.75) won the women's event, and Colorado Swim Club's Bruce Deakyne (9:49.12) was first in the men's event.
Day two of the Midwestern Collegiate Championships begins with Thursday's preliminary session at 10 a.m. at HPER Pool.
