Mavericks Better Qualifying Jumps, Times at Nebras

LINCOLN, Neb. – Two UNO athletes improved their qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championship at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday at the Devaney Center. In addition, the Mavericks qualified for the 4 x 400 meter relay in their first running of the event this year.
#Nkeiruka Domike# posted the second-best long jump in Division II this season with a mark of 19-3 ½. That jump was seven inches longer than her previous qualifying jump. Domike already owns the best mark in the nation in the triple jump (45-1 ¾), a jump that is a D-2 record for either indoor or outdoor.
Hurdler #Jody-Ann Coore# bettered her own qualifying mark in the 60 meter hurdles for the second week in a row. She ran a time of 8.77 after clocking a time of 8.86 last weekend. She is tied for ninth in all of Division II in the event.
The Mavs' newly-minted 4 x 400 meter relay team of #Kayla Koepke#, #Maja Mihalinec#, #Celeste Robinson and Anja Puc# finished fourth with a qualifying time of 3:49.43, placing it sixth in the nation. The team's qualifying time was even more remarkable given that Robinson had just returned to action following an injury, and Puc was running injured.
In the field, #Heather Minssen# equaled her qualifying throw in the shot put with a mark of 47-9 ¼ which was good for a fourth-place finish.
In other action, #Nicole Behm# reset her own personal best in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:09.75, nearly five seconds faster than her previous time. The 1,000 meters is not a national event.
The Mavericks will now defend their MIAA indoor championship which will be held on February 25-27 at Warrensburg, Mo. The Mavs have won the indoor championship two years in a row.
