WARRENSBURG, Mo. – #Nkeiruka Domike# broke the MIAA record in the triple jump, and the UNO track team sat in eighth place after the second day of the league indoor track and field championships at Central Missouri.
The Mavericks have 11 standings points with the final day of competition set to begin at noon on Sunday. Missouri Southern leads after day two with a score of 36. Fort Hays State (23) is second, and Emporia State (19) is third.
Domike posted the winning jump of 43-8 on her third jump, setting the conference and Central Missouri fieldhouse record in the process. She outdistanced runner up Stephany Johnson of Central Missouri by more than three feet. Domike has already posted the Division II record jump of 45-1 ¾.
In the weight throw, #Lianne McNaughton# finished sixth with a top throw of 51-3 ¾ to earn a point for the Mavs. She had been seeded 12th heading into the meet.
The remainder of the day for the Mavericks was preliminary heats for the finals on Sunday. #Anja Puc# qualified in the 800 meters, needing only a time of 2:17.68 to finish second in the prelims. She owns the MIAA's best 800 time this year at 2:09.82 and is the defending indoor and outdoor champion.
#Maja Mihalinec# shook off a false start in the 60 meter dash to qualify third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.96.
#Kayla Koepke# qualified for the finals of the 400 meters with a time of 57.89. #Jody-Ann Coore# also qualified for the final in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.95.
