Mavericks Remain Third in Country in Track Ranking

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The UNO track and field team is once again third in the Division II rankings released today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. It's the Mavericks' second straight week in that position.
Eight different Mavericks have already earned qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II national championship to be held in Albuquerque, N.M. in March. Sprinter #Anja Puc# owns the top mark in the country in the 800 meters at 2:09.52. #Nkeiruka Domike# is ranked first in the triple jump with a top mark of 43-5 1/4. Freshman #Kathie-Lee Laidley# is ranked second in the high jump following a school-record leap of 5-10 at Northern Iowa on Jan. 28 and second in the long jump after a jump of 19-0 3/4 at the Frank Sevigne Invitational at Nebraska last weekend.
The Mavericks are again the top-ranked team from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Lincoln University is fourth, Central Missouri is sixth, Fort Hays State is ninth, Pittsburg State is 21st and Missouri Southern is 22nd.
Grand Valley State (Mich.) has been ranked number one since the preseason. Ashland University of Ohio is second.
The Mavericks will compete in two meets this weekend. They will be at the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkanas on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12. They also will compete in the Concordia Indoor Invitational on Saturday.
