
Mavericks Send Six to NCAA Championships

OMAHA, Neb. – Six UNO athletes are set to compete in the 2011 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in San Antonio, Texas, this week at the Palo Alto Natatorium, the NCAA has announced.
The Maverick contingent is led by senior Laura Kemp, who was named Female Swimmer of the Year for the second straight season at the Midwestern Collegiate Championships. Kemp will compete in the 200 and 400 individual medley events and the 100-yard breaststroke.
Fellow senior Cait Hopkins will highlight the 200 and 400 medley relay teams for UNO, joined by junior Colleen Klaiber, sophomore Cami Hansberry and freshman Kylie Rathbone.
Hopkins, who was part of UNO's 400 freestyle relay team that won the NCAA title in 2008, will also compete in the 200 freestyle relay. In the 800 freestyle relay, Kemp, Hopkins, Klaiber and freshman Tiesha Scipio will team up, and Hopkins, Klaiber, Scipio and Rathbone will go for the 400 freestyle relay on Saturday, March 12.
In individual events, Scipio will swim in the 50-yard freestyle, and Rathbone takes on the 200 IM, 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. Klaiber will join Rathbone in the 100 free and 100 fly, and Hansberry is set for the 100 backstroke. Hopkins will round out the day with her teammates in the 100 free and then alone in the 200 freestyle.
Junior diver Amanda Schulte, the Mavericks' lone competitor on the boards, will compete in the one- and three-meter dives.
Psych sheets, live results and live video streaming are available through NCAA.com. Each day's preliminary sessions are slated for 10:30 a.m., while finals will begin at 6 p.m.
