OMAHA, Neb. - The fourth-ranked UNO track and field team left for Albuquerque, N.M. on Wednesday morning, site of the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championship. The Mavericks have eight athletes competing in the meet which will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12.
Last season, the Mavericks took fourth place overall behind national championship perfromances by #Anja Puc in the 800 meters and Nkeiruka Domike# in the triple jump.
Puc and Domike lead UNO again this season. Puc has posted the second-best time in the nation in the 800 at 2:09.52. She's done so in spite of battling injuries for most of the season.
Domike will go in as the favorite to repeat as national champion in the triple jump. She posted a jump of 45-1 3/4 at the Tyson Invitational held at Arkansas back on February 11, a mark that is the best jump in NCAA Division II history for either indoors or outdoors.
Domike also goes to nationals as the second-ranked athlete in the long jump.
#Heather Minssen#, the MIAA champion in the shot put, will compete in the shot at nationals where she is ranked sixth. #Maja Mihalinec# has qualified in two events, the 60 meter and the 200 meter dashes. #Kathie-Lee Laidley# will compete in the long and high jumps. #Jody-Ann Coore# will toe the line in the 60 m hurdles.
Mihalinec and Puc will team with #Celeste Robinson and Kayla Koepke# in the 4 x 400 relay.
