GRANBURY, Texas - The UNO golf team finished strong, improving its team score by 23 strokes on its way to a tenth-place finish at the Doc Housewright Invitational hosted by Tarleton State. Ricca Soper was UNO's top scorer in the tournament.
Host Tarleton State finished off a wire-to-wire win, closing with a tournament-low team score of 286 to finish at 592. That put the Texanns 19 strokes ahead of second-place Grand Canyon which finished at 611. St. Edward's University was third at 619.
Soper shot 75 in the second round to better her round-one score by eight strokes. She led the Mavs in scoring with a score of 158 for the tournament, good for a tie for 21st place.
Armana Christianson, UNO's top scorer after the first day, posted another round of 80 to finish second for the Mavs and tied for 25th overall with a score of 160. Dani Suponchick had UNO's second-best score in round two, carding a 78 to finish the tournament at 162, good for a tied for 32nd place.
Rebecca Pollock shaved nine strokes off her round-one score on Tuesday, closing with a 78 to finish the tournament at 165. Amy Powell had 85 on day two and finished the tournament at 172.
The Mavericks will now prepare to defend their MIAA championship on Monday and Tuesday, April 18 and 19 in Kansas City. UNO has won the past two league championships.
