Mavericks Earn Several Firsts at Doane College

CRETE, Neb. – Heather Minssen posted wins in the shot put and the discus as the UNO track and field team took part in the Doane College Relays on Saturday. Her two wins were among the four first-place finishes for the Mavericks.
Minssen posted a mark of 48-1 ¼ in the shot put, more than five feet better than the runner up. Teammate Lianne McNaughton was third with a throw of 42-8.
Minssen also was tops in the discus with a throw of 141-10.
Also in the field events, Sami Spenner took first in the triple jump with a mark of 37-3, a new personal best.
On the track, Jody-Ann Coore won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.77, just one-tenth of a second off her personal best.
Spenner returned to earn third place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.66. Later, Nicole Behm earned a second-place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:21.46.
The Mavericks are back in action in two meets next week. They'll take part in the prestigious Drake Relays on Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30. They'll also take part in the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College in nearby Indianola, Iowa.
