Laidley Wins Twice at Kip Janvrin Open

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Freshman Kathie-Lee Laidley took first place in the high jump and the long jump on the final day of competition at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College. Both jumps were qualifying marks for the NCAA outdoor national championship.
Laidley earned first in the long jump with a mark of 18-10, a mark that ranks fifth in the MIAA. She also posted a jump of 5-6 in the high jump, equalling her best jump of the season set at Concordia College two weeks ago.
In other action, senior Heather Minssen had a busy schedule. She earned a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 46-10 and finished eighth in the discus with a toss of 146-6. In between, she traveled next door to the Drake Relays where she competed in the shot put again. Minssen was the top-finishing Division II thrower with a mark of 46-11 3/4.
Also at the Janvrin Open, Nicole Behm was eighth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:51.26.
The Mavericks continue their busy weekend on Sunday with the MIAA's Heptathlon Championship at Pittsburg State. UNO will send Jessica Ripp, Ckalyn Roth-Clark and Sami Spenner to the two-day competition. The MIAA outdoor championship will be the following weekend at Emporia State.
