AMARILLIO, Texas - The UNO golf team held down ninth place after the first 18 holes of play at the NCAA Division II West Regional. Dani Suponchick led the Mavericks in scoring after the first of three rounds at the Tascosa Golf Club.
The Mavericks posted a team score of 333 in round one. Tarleton State leads the nine-team field with a team score of 307. California State Monterey Bay and St. Edward's are tied for second at 318. The low three teams and the low two individuals not with those teams will all advance to the NCAA Division II Championship at Grand Valley State.
Suponchick fired an 81 on day one, good for a tie for 27th overall. Armana Christianson was one stroke back at 82 over the 5,964-yard layout. That put her second for UNO and tied for 29th overall. Ricca Soper and Rebecca Pollock each fired a first-round 85 to tie for third in UNO scoring and tying for 40th overall. Amy Powell shot 87 to finish the first day 46th overall.
The Mavericks begin day two at 10:16 a.m. on Monday.
