Spenner Hits Four PRs at NCAA Outdoor Championship

TURLOCK, Calif. - Sophomore Sami Spenner recorded personal bests in the first four events of the heptathlon on the first day of competition at the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field national championship on Thursday. The meet is being held at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium on the campus of California State Stanislaus.
Spenner sits in 10th place in the 16-person field with a total score of 2,982 points. She will compete in the final three events of the heptathlon - the long jump, javelin and 800 m - beginning at 1 p.m. CT tomorrow.
Spenner began her pr run when she clocked a time of 15.16 in the 100 m hurdles. She followed that performance with a leap of 5-03 3/4 in the high jump, moving her into 11th place in the 16-person field.
Spenner picked up another 582 points and her third pr with a throw of 35-05 1/4 in the shot put. It came on her final throw of the event. She closed out the day with her highest finish in any event, seventh place with a time of 25.74 in the 200 meter dash.
This is the first year that Spenner has competed in the heptathlon. She finished third at the MIAA oudoor championship earlier this month to earn All-MIAA honors.
Spenner's teammate, senior Heather Minssen, will begin competition with the shot put finals at 9:30 p.m. CT tomorrow. Spenner and Minssen are UNO's two representatives at the national meet.
